Controlled-Release Dosage Form Definition
A dosage form designed to release medication over extended time periods to avoid high concentrations in the digestive tract or to provide longer duration of action than are available through conventional dosage forms. Controlled release system is able to provide some actual therapeutic control, whether of a temporal nature, spatial nature, or both.
