Human GK wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of Xp21.3 and is approximately 77 kb in length. This allele, which encodes glycerol kinase protein, is involved in the regulation of glycerol metabolism. Mutations in the gene are associated with glycerol kinase deficiency.
