Geographic Information System Definition
A GIS is an organized collection of computer hardware, software, geographic data and personnel designed to efficiently capture, store, update, manipulate, analyze and display all forms of geographically referenced information. NCI's plan is to use geographic information systems for the assessment of environmental risk factors, identification of places and/or subpopulations where cancer surveillance and control programs are needed.
