MC1R Protein Definition
Human melanocortin 1 receptor protein (317 aa, ~34.7 kDa) is encoded by the melanocortin 1 receptor gene (MC1R). This integral membrane protein belongs to the G protein coupled receptor superfamily, and is a regulator of eumelanin and phaeomelanin production. These proteins are directly involved in pigmentation phenotypes.
