The human MIR222 wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of Xp11.3 and is 109 bases in length. This allele, which encodes MIR222 RNA, plays a role in development of cancers of the lung, thyroid, breast, prostate, glioblastoma and malignant (metastatic) melanoma.
