Quinolone Antibiotic Definition

The basic structure of quinolone is nalidixic acid that has limited therapeutic value. However, the development of fluorinated quinolones led to new derivative compounds with broad antibacterial activity. Both DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV are targets of quinolones.
