Ribonuclease-III Definition

Encoded as 2 alternative isoforms by human RNase III Gene, ubiquitous 1374-aa 159-kDa nuclear Ribonuclease III contains a DRBM domain and 2 RNase III domains. Involved in pre-rRNA processing, RNase III endonucleolytically cleaves double-strand, not single-strand, RNA to 5'-phosphomonoester. RNase III interacts with Sp1 and a fraction is translocated to the nucleolus during S phase. (NCI)
