Highly conserved small nuclear RNA-protein complexes that mediate splicing of hnRNP to mRNA, pre-mRNA 3'-end processing in the nucleoplasm, and pre-rRNA processing in the nucleolus. Small nuclear ribonuclear proteins draw together specific hnRNA sequences to form a loop that is then excised.
