Tumor Suppressor Gene Definition

Tumor Suppressor Genes encode proteins whose functions inhibit expression of tumorigenic phenotypes by holding cellular proliferation in check. When inactivated or lost, a barrier to normal proliferation is removed and deregulated growth is possible. (NCI)
