Unclassified Oncogene Definition

Any oncogene (cancer-causing gene) that is derived from a proto-oncogene (normal gene) which has an unknown or unclassified cellular function. Genetic mutations that convert a proto-oncogene to an oncogene can be inherited or occur somatically.
